At January’s Film Club we talked about ‘Friendly Persuasion’ a film from 1956 starring Gary Cooper and Dorothy McGuire.
Set in the American Civil War the film explores the reaction of Quakers (who are pacifists) to the war – which is getting ever closer to them.
Would their principles hold firm as their friends neighbours and family are threated by the enemy forces? You’ll need to watch the film to find out (available to borrow free of charge from the film library in the church hall).
Plenty of food for thought at another very enjoyable Film Club Night. Next month it’s ‘Still Life’ with Eddie Marsan and Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates in Downton Abbey). Why not join us if you’re in the area?
